I wasn’t sure about bowhunting in heavy wind but friend and MMK prostaffer Eric Ludtke convinced me the night before to go. The morning started out a little chilly with winds 15-25 mph. Eric and I decided to split up and hunt different stands to see where the deer movement was this morning. Right away I heard some turkeys in the roost making all kinds of noise, so I got my bow off the hanger and waited. After about 20 minutes of them clucking and gobbling I seen a few fly down in my direction and start up the trail to me. I clicked the camera on(so I thought) and went on draw. The first 4 birds to me were hens and I could see a tom with a pretty good beard behind the hens but before he got to me the first hen raised up like she didn’t like something, which I have seen them do plenty and most of the time followed by a alarm cluck, so I put my 20 yard pin on the first hen and let it fly and watched her die! I then looked up to the camera and noticed I had double clicked it and missed the kill shot. I hit record in time to see the hen stumble around and die. Within 15 minutes of killing the turkey I had a fork buck and a basket rack 8 pt come by me. I’m glad I listened to Eric and went hunting cause now I have a nice turkey for Thanksgiving!
