I had a hand full of trail cam pics of this buck from when he was in velvet to just days before he found my arrow.  It was pre-rut and he came through grunting on a steady walk.  I had him stopped at 25 yards in the woods, but it was right at shooting light and I couldn’t tell how big he was until he moved on to the field behind me.  I was in this huge tree and I had to step onto the limb next to my stand so I could shoot behind the tree. So here I am with one foot on the treestand and one on the limb next to it leaning around the tree to shoot.  I shot him at 49 yards and double lunged him.  He went about 150 yds before piling up.  My Hoyt did the job and I couldn’t have been happier. This was the largest buck I have taken with a bow.
It green scored 122″.

Story Behind Kill:
I HAD JUST STOOD UP TO STRECH AND CLIMB DOWN FOR THE MORNING, WHEN I HEARD A COYOTE YELPING DOWN THE DRAW. I QUICKLY GOT MY TRUSTY MOSSBERG UP AND READY JUST IN CASE
THEY CAME BY, AND THEN THEY WERE GONE. MAYBE A MINUTE LATER HERE CAME 2 DOES, TROTIN IN AND OUT OF THE TIMBER. THEY TOOK A TRAIL NOT 40 YARDS FROM MY STAND AND TO MY SURPRISE HERE CAME BIG BOY WITH 2 MORE DOES AND ANOTHER BUCK. HE STOPPED RIGHT ON THE TRAIL TO LOOK BACK AT THE COYOTES (I ASSUME) AND STARTED WALKING, I LET OUT A LIGHT GRUT AND HE LOCKED UP. BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, I RANG OUT 3 SHOTS, HE RAN 20 YARDS AND FELL OVER. AFTER NOT BEING ABLE TO HUNT ON SATURDAY BECAUSE OF THE       MAJOR ICE STORM, THIS WAS A GREAT SUPRISE!

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!! 99.9 PERCENT OF THE TIME THEY RUIN IT.

 My 08-09 season started off well when I harvested a nice mature 11 point on my second night in the stand.  The next 2 months I pretty much just filmed for the mmk prostaff team and worked on getting some does harvested for my jerky maker!!   This was my first year for late muzzleloader in Iowa.  I am a die-hard shotgun hunter so I tagged 3 does shotgun season and got ready for my first Iowa  late muzzleloader hunts.  Between east cenral Iowa and southeast Iowa I hunted hard, missing a easy 60 yard shot in southeast Iowa on a real nice 10 pointer, watching him slowly look around and run away, I thought this was my last chance at a real monster.
  On Jan 7th I came home from southeast Iowa after 1 1/2 weeks of hunting there, feeling defeated. On the morning of the 8th I hunted close to home in one of my honey holes with Eric Ludtke , friend and co-creator of mmk.  Eric seen 25 does that morning missing a running shot by bow on a fat doe, while I seen 2 does from my stand.  We knew the deer must be bunched up due to cold and ice and set a plan for the evening hunt.  Eric,myself and ”fat guys camp ” hunter Tony Pauly set out to harvest something that night. Eric set-up deep in the woods while Tony and I set-up just off the corn.About a half hour before dark the fields came alive with deer and all were heading my way thankfully.  With about 10 minutes of light left I spotted a nice buck heading my direction and I knew if I waited for him I would not have legal light left, so I made the decision to get up and go to him.  Tony, seeing me moving along the fence and sticking out with my orange vest on,seen the same buck and picked up his binoculars just in time to see me make a 125 yard shot and drop this big boy in his tracks.When we walked up on him he was a lot bigger than I thought.He is my best buck to date .               Remember hunters, it is never over till its over!
