Late season mallards around here are hard to bring down into the smaller creeks and swamps but we did pretty well…just once again having trouble knocking them down shooting cheap steel shot. Time for some blindsides or nitro’s.

Best opening day we’ve had yet…If we could hit everything we shoot at when it comes to teal and wood ducks we could have limited out many times over even with 5 guys.

Unfortunately I lost this deer for a little over a month due to the terrain and an antsy trigger finger on the release. He crossed a creek on me twice and we lost blood. I never gave up looking for him because I knew it was a kill shot and he couldn’t be to far from where we lost blood. Found him crawled up under a down tree top where I had drug out another smaller buck during the 9 day gun hunt within 10 yards of him! 16 scoreable points with one being just shy of an inch making him 17 points. Waiting on a score and age of the buck. Get wet guys thats where the big boys hide!

It was Monday Morning and i really wanted to be in my treestand because the rut was in full swing in Wisconsin. I wasn’t able to hunt because the farmer whos land I hunt had asked me to help spread manure on his field. As I was driving the tractor on a trail through a patch woods, I happened to see a doe only 20 yards of the tractor trail with a nice tall rack buck at her side. All I could do was stare in awe as they just watched me drive by. Hoping he would stick around I returned to a Stand close to the area where I saw the buck. After passing up two small bucks I decided to use my grunt call. One sequence of grunts and I had a shooter buck come charging out of the swamp! He walked 10 yards in front of me and I let the arrow fly. I didnt get a good look at him but after a short trailing job I found my buck and it just happened to be that buck I had seen that morning while I was on the tractor. He was a massive 7pt with a 16.5 inch spread and dressed out at 200lbs. What an awesome day in the woods!

I had this buck show up on camera 2 weeks previous to bow opener. I targeted this deer as one of the top three to harvest this year with a bow. He showed up on the 17th of Sept. around 7PM. He started to fight with a medium size 8 pointer and I decided to take him at that time. While he was fighting, I had no shot, so I had to sit down on the ladder of my stand to get a shot. I ranged him at 27 yrds. broadside shot, and I let the arrow loose. He hunched up and ran back into the thicket. It kind of stinks that I filled my buck tag right away, but he is an awesome buck. He weighed 247 lbs field dressed.

This was my first whitetail ever. The neighbor walked in at seven. There was three
deer, two came thirty yards. I shot the large doe and passed on the other small one.
Later dad kicked up that same deer and I shot it fifty yards in the very thick
sapplings.

I took my 12 week old Lab pup out for her first hunt. I went along with two buddies
of mine to a pheasant farm to get his two labs some off-season work. Not knowing
how my pup would do with everything I didn’t take a gun, just my video camera. She
did great. She wasn’t phased by the gun shots and ran through the 12″+ snow for an
hour and a half. I got all four kills on video so when I figure out how to get it
on here I will. I can’t wait for duck season next fall!!
